Seasonal topics for employee newsletters in April
Spring has officially arrived, and April is a great month to encourage your employees to get outside, get moving, and freshen up their spaces.
Here are a few ideas of things we like to add to our April newsletters:
- Tips for dealing with stress: April is Stress Awareness Month, and if you do a wellness newsletter, you could do an entire edition of it on this topic alone! If you’re just going with a section of your monthly newsletter, consider sharing 5 simple tips that your team can follow to reduce stress in their day-to-day lives (e.g. a short walk, a video on how to take deep breaths, a yoga class, etc.)
- Spring cleaning tips for your office space or desk: Not only is this great for just general wellness, but you can even run a “show us/decorate your desk space” competition and offer the winner a little spring-themed prize. It’s a good way to get remote workers to share a different view of their space, too (after all, we’re used to only seeing what’s in the background of the Zoom meeting, right?!)
- Walking meetings: Challenge your employees to turn one meeting a week into a walking meeting! Instead of dialing in from a desk or taking the meeting in an empty conference room, call in from your phone and get out for a stroll. We love this format for one-on-ones, or for meetings where you’re just calling in to listen and learn.
- Performance updates: April marks not only the start of spring, but the start of the second quarter of the year! Your April newsletter is a great opportunity to reconnect with the company and share key performance metrics. Share how the organization is tracking towards its 2024 goals and any notes from leadership on where employees should focus in the coming months.
- Financial literacy tips: April is also Financial Literacy Month, and this is a topic that goes over incredibly well with employees (we find that many of them will specifically ask to learn more about this topic when surveyed). Here are 30 ideas from the Muse that you can easily incorporate as quick tips.
- Spring trends: Share what’s popular in your particular industry and give your team an idea of what’s to come!
- Local outdoor events: Find a calendar of local events and spotlight one or two for the team. After all, it’s the season for jazz music, food and wine festivals, outdoor concerts, and so much more. 🙂 Bonus tip: With a tool like Workshop, you can segment your internal audiences and send your employees personalized events based on your employees’ location.
Earth Day employee newsletter ideas
One of the biggest observances in April is Earth Day (April 22), which provides you a great opportunity to highlight the company’s sustainable, green, and/or environmental initiatives.
Here are a few ways you can celebrate with your team (and create newsletter content at the same time):
- Donate to local or national causes: Supporting environmental causes is a great habit to get into, and there are tons of awesome projects to choose from (you can even donate to directly to Earth Day). But make sure that you aren’t only committing to Earth Day with your dollars: back up your donations with tangible actions (like reducing your carbon footprint).
- Connect with nature: What better way to celebrate Earth Day than experiencing it for yourself? Book a time for employees to take part in a nature walk (either as a group, or have everyone do it independently and send in photos afterwards!)
- Share ways to reduce the company’s carbon footprint: Don’t forget to actually implement them during this week and beyond! Always pair your corporate words with corporate actions. 🙂
- Run a food waste challenge: In the US alone, around 40% of food is wasted each year 😲. Challenge employees to calculate their FoodPrint (here’s a link to the quiz!), waste zero food for one week, or run a Zoom cooking workshop that helps teach the team innovative ways to use leftovers.
- Create an eco-friendly working guide: Educate employees with a step-by-step guide explaining how to reduce their environmental impact at work (or home). Include tips on reducing electricity use, food waste, and travel.
- Go paperless: These days, most banks and services provide paperless options. Take a look over your weekly mail drop and see if there’s any providers you can scale back the paper waste with. Then, move your systems online with smart tools for key processes, like hiring. And, if you’re still printing your employee newsletter? Move to something like Workshop, and deliver your newsletter via email and text messaging instead.

Tax Day employee newsletter ideas
Tax Day is on April 15, and for many, this time of year can be a confusing and overwhelming time. You could always include a Tax Day section within your newsletter or send a dedicated email chock-full of tips, tricks, and resources that help your employees have a smooth tax season.
- Share information about how employees can avoid tax scams and protect their personal information
- Inform employees where they can find their W2
- Offer dedicated office hours to help employees with all their tax questions
- Remind employees of important tax deadlines, tax law updates, or employee tax benefits they may be eligible for
- Tie in the tax season theme and provide employees with personal finance tips and resources
- Why not celebrate the end of tax season? Organize a company-wide happy hour or celebration to mark the end of tax season
