Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) statement examples

Jamie Bell

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) statements help show your organization’s commitment to furthering diversity and belonging in the workplace to your employees, customers, prospects, and the public. Weaving these values into your organization’s mission also helps create environments where everyone can thrive. It’s a good idea to regularly communicate your mission in both internal communications and in the public eye. We’ve compiled five DEI statements that cover various industries and five examples from real companies that we find inspiring.

Here are five sample diversity, equity, and inclusion statements that cover various industries, company sizes, and cultural contexts:

1. Technology Startup:

At [Tech Startup Name], we’re not just innovators in technology; we’re champions of diversity, equity, and inclusion. 2. Healthcare Provider:

We’re dedicated to building a workplace where every employee feels valued, respected, and empowered. Our diverse team brings a wealth of experiences and perspectives that drive our innovation and success. We’re crafting a future where diversity isn’t just a goal; it’s the foundation upon which we build excellence in everything we do.

These sample DEI statements demonstrate how organizations of different sizes and industries can express their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion while aligning with their unique missions and cultures.

It’s important to note, too – you can’t just publish the statement and pat yourself on the back. DEI statements should summarize the values that your actions represent. Your internal communication channels, like employee newsletters, are a good place to share with employees how your DEI mission is coming to life. Grab our handy channel matrix template to plan how and where you share it. An email tool like Workshop can help you create, organize, and send your communications to move the plan forward!

And here are five sample diversity, equity, and inclusion statements for real companies that we find inspiring:

2. Adobe:

Next steps: get the word out to your organization

With your DEI statement crafted, approved, and adopted by leadership at your organization, it’s time to make sure that it’s visible and regularly demonstrated! It’s never enough to say it once or just publish it on your intranet… you need to adopt the practice of actually implementing DEI and sharing with employees how that’s happening. We’ve put together some resources to help with the undertaking:

Communications cascade: When you share a new piece of information like a DEI policy or statement change, it’s vital to make sure that it’s received and understood by each of the diverse audiences in your company. Use a cascade model to help think through what each group needs to hear, how they need to hear it, and how they’ll provide feedback. Get the cascade template >

Internal communications plan: This is another way to think through your channels, audiences, goals, and feedback loops. An internal comms plan will also help you set how you’re going to keep talking about your DEI statement and not let it languish. Get the internal comms plan >
