Internal Communication
A running list of my best internal communication ideas
On the hunt for a bit of inspiration and magic to spice up the day-to-day in internal comms?
I’ve been running a creative lil’ series on LinkedIn for quite some time now, and thought I’d spin up a centralized, running list of all of the internal communication ideas I’ve shared. Take a scroll through and feel free to share (or message me directly!) if you find something you love!
Internal communication ideas I’m loving lately:
– Anything related to print or magazine nostalgia…like hotlines, advice columns, really nosy “day-in-the-life” interviews with hyper-specific time stamps and photos of the employee’s day (we’ve just implemented this ourselves with the launch of Ask Devin!)
– Specifically asking for replies in an email (and making sure those replies to go a specific person and are followed up on)
– Sharing the results of your employee engagement survey with an immediate action item the team will implement as a result
– Creating a manager-specific comms channel (i.e. a specific newsletter, Slack channel, etc.) just to make sure your baselines are covered and they get announcements early — here is a more in-depth guide on how to bridge the comms gap with managers!
– Sending a holiday message with named expectations and real value (log off entirely!), not just flat messages with no depth
– Adding a section of your all-hands that spotlights a specific customer story and experience, which gives everyone the warm fuzzies + reinforces company pride
– Creating a custom GPT built w/ your employee personas to test messaging related to change management (not a replacement for real interviews though!)
– doing your year in review campaign as a video with “DVD commentary” from different team members
– practical subject lines paired with playful preview text (if subject lines are a pain point, you can find more of our tips & tricks here!)
– exec Q&As focused on one topic, like AI or financials, rather than being so broad and generic
– making your employee newsletter email header into an animated GIF (so it dances or grabs attention right at open)
– creating a custom GPT trained on your CEO’s voice to help with ghostwriting (here’s my guide on how to create a custom GPT for your company’s voice and tone, but it’s super easy to repurpose this for ghostwriting)
– creating more of a concept for your all-hands, like making it a news broadcast, internal conference, or variety show
– automating birthday and anniversary emails from the company, but pinging managers to send warm & personalized notes at the same time (this is really easy when you’re about to automate comms with something like Journeys)
– taking 30 min at the end of every week to look through your main channels, find the most engaging content (most comments/likes/views/opens/clicks), and make a note to repackage + elevate those further into campaigns
– creating a managers-only email with 3 things they should share with their team and one open-ended question to reply to (feedback loop!)
– an internal employee podcast for product launches/field sales
– beautifully designed and branded posters for displaying company values or programs
– thumbs up/thumbs down surveys embedded in emails for quick feedback
– short videos explaining big decisions
– running all-hands meetings like marketing events (music, MCs, pacing!) — energy is a strategy!
– upcoming events sections in employee newsletters that dynamically show based on the employee’s location
– “day in the life” reels from different departments
